Moving in and out of your home
Moving home can be a bit daunting. There are lots of things you need to do in a short space of time. Here are some general tips for a smooth move.
As soon as you know you are moving, please confirm this in writing to the Lettings team as soon as possible - this is called 'giving us notice'. You can do this by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, via post (we suggest recorded delivery) or in person. Please include:
- your name
- your address
- when you are moving (approximately if you don’t yet know the exact dates)
- the address you are moving to, and
- your home and mobile phone numbers, so we can contact you.
You need to give us four weeks' notice in writing under the terms of your tenancy agreement. You will be charged four weeks rent if you move out before this.
We will make an appointment for you with our Neighbourhood Coordinator to sign the tenancy agreement and be given the keys. This should take place at the property so we can go through any queries you may have about your new home.
Prior to this, one of our Income and Inclusion team will contact you to run through how you will be paying your rent and if you need any assistance regarding your finances or benefits.
At the appointment, we will go through the tenancy agreement with you to make sure you understand how to pay your rent, what to do if you have a repair and your rights and responsibilities as a tenant. We will show you where the utility meters are and discuss if you need assistance in setting up household bills or a referral to our handyman service.
